The Last Doctor — A Milestone Reached
Now to get the story out there
After many months (and countless cups of tea), I’m thrilled to share that I’ve completed my latest novel, The Last Doctor. This project has been a labor of love—a post-apocalyptic story set in a fractured America, where hope and healing are as scarce as water. At its heart, the book follows Deborah, a scarred healer navigating the ruins of society, and the secret network of children who become the unlikely spark of resistance.
This isn’t just a story about survival; it’s about the quiet power of compassion, the endurance of myth, and the ways ordinary people can change the course of a broken world. I set out to write something that blends the grit of speculative fiction with the depth of literary storytelling, and I’m proud of where the journey has taken me.
The Next Steps
I’m also excited (and a little nervous) to say that I’ve begun submitting The Last Doctor to literary agents. The process is both daunting and exhilarating—sending your work out into the world and hoping it finds the right champion. I’ve carefully selected a handful of agents who represent the kind of fiction I love to read and write, and I’m eager to see where this next chapter leads.
Protecting the Work
To ensure the manuscript is fully protected, I have registered The Last Doctor with both the Writers Guild of America West and the U.S. Copyright Office. Taking these steps gives me peace of mind as I share the book with agents and industry professionals.
On Writer’s Block
What I haven’t shared until now is that The Last Doctor became the cause of my writer’s block. The process of writing and revising this singular novel was so consuming and emotionally intense that, for a long time, I found it impossible to write anything else. Only early this year did I finally break through that block and begin writing again. Finishing this book was not just a creative milestone, but a personal one—a testament to persistence, patience, and rediscovering the joy of storytelling.
Gratitude
Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way—friends, family, readers, and the writing community. Your encouragement, feedback, and belief in this story have meant the world.
I’ll share updates as I have them. For now, I’m taking a breath, starting new pages, and holding onto hope—just like Deborah would.
