A Taste for Lunacy—Breakthrough Revision and Bold New Pages
A new arc, and a new supernatural menace
I’m proud to announce that “A Taste for Lunacy” has undergone a deep, no-stone-unturned revision. After listening to invaluable feedback on the first draft—whether about authenticity, visual clarity, or character focus—I set out to transform the screenplay into something darker, sharper, and undeniably more original.
What’s New:
• Critiques Addressed: The narrative now balances psychological horror with procedural wit, dives deeper into character motive, and grounds its surreal elements with real-world sensory detail.
• Unique Prose: Gone are the standard, serviceable descriptions. The new draft is alive with cinematic writing: every room hums with its own history, and every action ripples with emotional and thematic resonance.
To offer a glimpse, here’s a section from a major turning point that didn’t exist in the original—where Dr. Stanley Fish lays out the connection of the mind to the soul:
STANLEY (CONT’D)
…memory, it is as real as it gets. But now your new memories, the ones you have taken from your...hmm...patients? Those are less connected. Not as much sense to it. But the memory is there. And all the ones that came with me. The soul is part of the mind, not vice versa. And it just depends on how much of the soul decided to take a ride with the mind you took. You’ll find JJ’s mind was clinging to survival. So his soul probably completely fit into that bit of brain you consumed. Mine too. Sometimes the soul can’t let go, can’t give up. And sometimes, as with your typical lunatic, it’s ready to go. And so you get bits, pieces, just the bad parts that the soul wants to leave behind, before it takes off into the great beyond.
Screens and stages demand stories that take risks, and this revision is unapologetic about going to places the older draft only hinted at. There’s horror, there’s strange beauty, and there’s the existential mystery of “what happens to a soul in a world obsessed with erasure.”
Thank you to everyone who gave thoughtful, blunt, or even brutal notes. Your words fueled a profound change—and this screenplay is now braver for it.
Stay tuned: more process insights, scenes, and big news are coming soon. Your support keeps this journey bold and honest.
